3:30 PM - 5:00 PM
This fun and experiential workshop will approach poetic form as a space for discovery rather than limitation. We’ll explore both traditional (lyric, villanelle, haiku, etc.) and modern, more experimental poems (erasure, cut ups, etc.). Learning how poets find freedom within constraint, students will write, building their own poetic sense of possibility using these constraints. They will also learn how to give compassionate constructive feedback to their peers as they work to revise their first drafts. Students will leave with a deeper understanding of poetry and a handful of polished poems. The last class will be dedicated to the celebration of the writing process and include a formal class reading event wherein students may invite friends and family to attend.
